The foundation.
Core provides the capabilities every PIHI-based product can rely on — including identity, tenancy, security and the fundamental services needed to operate a SaaS product.
Built once. Shared by every PIHI-based product.SaaS platform
PIHI is a reusable platform for building and operating SaaS products.
It provides common capabilities, reusable modules and product blueprints so new software businesses can focus on what makes their product valuable — instead of rebuilding the foundations every time.
The problem
A new SaaS product needs much more than its unique business functionality.
Identity, security, administration, shared business capabilities and the operational foundations behind the product.
These are essential — but rebuilding them for every new product consumes time that could be spent solving the actual customer problem.
PIHI turns those recurring needs into a reusable platform. Why PIHI?
PIHI originally stands for Pre-Integrated Hosting Infrastructure.
The name reflects the idea the platform started from: bringing the common foundations of a SaaS product together before product-specific development begins.
Today, PIHI extends that idea beyond infrastructure into reusable core capabilities, modules and product blueprints.
The platform
Not everything should be shared in the same way. PIHI separates reusable capabilities into layers, allowing each product to use the right level of common foundation.
Core provides the capabilities every PIHI-based product can rely on — including identity, tenancy, security and the fundamental services needed to operate a SaaS product.
Built once. Shared by every PIHI-based product.Modules provide capabilities that are common to many products but not necessarily required by all of them. Products can adopt the modules they need instead of implementing the same functionality repeatedly.
Use what the business needs.Blueprints combine platform capabilities into proven starting points for particular types of applications and services. They help a new product start from an established structure while leaving room for the functionality that makes the business unique.
Start further ahead. As PIHI evolves, reusable capabilities can extend beyond the platform itself. The longer-term direction is an ecosystem where modules and other reusable capabilities can be shared, extended and adopted across PIHI-based products.
Extend the platform without rebuilding it.The idea
PIHI is designed to shift development effort away from rebuilding common foundations and towards the capabilities that create value for the product and its customers.
New products can begin with established platform capabilities instead of an empty project and a new implementation of the same fundamentals.
Reusable platform capabilities can evolve independently of individual products, allowing improvements to benefit more than one PIHI-based application.
Development effort can concentrate on the customer problem, product experience and business capabilities that actually make one software business different from another.
Built through real products
PIHI isn't being developed in isolation.
NUGAO is the first PIHI-based product. It provides a practical environment for building, testing and validating platform capabilities against the needs of a real software product.
What we learn from building NUGAO feeds back into PIHI — helping distinguish what belongs in the reusable platform from what should remain product-specific.
The goal isn't to generalise everything. It's to learn what is genuinely reusable.
From platform to business
PIHI separates the reusable platform from the software businesses operating on it. In our first implementation, Aguun Inc. represents that business layer and NUGAO its application/service.
Aguun Inc. is a registered auxiliary business name of Nuuga Oy and is used conceptually to model a business operating on PIHI.
Built for software businesses
A software product changes as its customers, business model and capabilities evolve. PIHI is being designed around architectural principles that support that evolution from the beginning.
PIHI provides a foundation for products serving multiple organisations and users while keeping their data and access appropriately separated.
Identity, authentication, access control and security are platform concerns rather than features every product should have to reinvent.
PIHI-based products can adopt reusable modules where they make sense while retaining their own product-specific capabilities and experience.
PIHI is built around cloud-based deployment, automation and continuous evolution rather than a traditional application-and-server model.
PIHI is being designed with explicit consideration for where customer data is stored and processed. For our European environments, the architectural objective is to keep server-side storage and processing of Customer Data within the EU wherever the selected services allow it.
Current status
PIHI is currently in active development.
The first platform capabilities are being implemented and validated through NUGAO, our first PIHI-based product.
The objective is not simply to create one application. It is to prove that the same foundation can support additional software products — while allowing each product to remain focused on its own customers, business and capabilities.
Technology foundation
PIHI is currently being built on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft identity technologies, using modern cloud-native architecture, automation and managed services.
Technology choices serve the platform — they don't define it. PIHI's reusable capabilities and product model are designed around software business needs rather than individual cloud services.
Build on PIHI
PIHI is Nuuga's approach to turning common software foundations into a reusable platform for new products and software businesses.
